Wayne Sheets has been with the NRA for over 30 years. For over twenty years of that tenure, he has been an avid supporter of the Mzuri Wildlife Foundation and its mission. Wayne's unstinting generosity in providing resources, donations and his counsel, have contributed greatly to the success of the Mzuri Wildlife Foundation fundraising dinners. He has been a great partner for the foundation and is a friend to all who are involved in shooting sports and who are committed to protecting our Second Amendment rights.
Sheets has a lifelong and diversified background in hunting, shooting and gun collecting. While attending the Rochester Institute of Technology in New York in the early '70's Wayne coached the rifle, skeet and trap teams. His love for the shooting sports led to his first position at the NRA. In his thirty year tenure at the NRA Wayne's mission has been to enhance the philanthropic programs and opportunities available to supporters of shooting sports.
Following the 2008 NRA annual meeting, Sheets was appointed the new Executive Director of The NRA Foundation. For his generous contribution to the work of the foundation and to shooting sports, the Board of Trustees of the MWF is pleased to honor Wayne Sheets as it's Steven E. Nelson Sportsman of the Year.
