The Mzuri Wildlife Foundation was founded in 1969 in San Francisco to guarantee the continuing vitality of wild game animals and the natural environments in which they live. The foundation was created by noted environmentalists and sportsmen. Over the years, the Mzuri Wildlife Foundation has funded millions of dollars of wildlife conservation projects, in Africa, the western United States, Canada, and throughout the world.

The Mzuri Wildlife Foundation 2009 Fund in Need which raised over $30,000 for a major reforestation project in conjunction with the Friedkin Conservation Fund of Tanzania has been an unqualified success. Plans for planting thirty thousand trees the first year of the program were exceeded by fifty nine percent.
