Funds were raised through our Fund In Need Auction, a Live Auction and a Silent Auction. Fundraising goals exceeded expectations in all categories, but most notably in the Fund In Need Auction. Our 2010 Fund in Need Goal was to raise $16,000 in order to fund beekeeping programs in three additional villages in Tanzania. That goal was exceeded by 25%. Mzuri Platinum Grant Benefactor, Frances Nelson generously provided the foundation with an additional grant of $7500 to utilize for youth shooting programs in honor of her son, Steven E. Nelson. The Funds raised for the Beekeeping program will Our goal is to expand on a project started in 2007, and bring economic self sustainability to an additional three villages. Kangeme Village, A Model for SuccessMaking African villages self sustaining economically is the first major step toward eradication of poaching and destruction of the environment by wholesale harvesting of trees as charcoal. MWF co-sponsored a experimental beekeeping project in Kangeme village in Tanzania with 500 hives in 2007. Within one year after the implementation of the program, Kangeme village, notorious for poaching activities, became financially self sufficient producing 40 liters from each hive, for a total of 20,000 liters of honey. Poaching has virtually ceased in the village. Building on the success of our initial program in collaboration with the Friedkin Conservation Fund, our goal is to raise $16,000 for our Fund in Need to fund beekeeping programs in three additional villages.
